Had this 30 years, light home use only on wood, never a problem. Loan to a friend who uses it to sand excessive drywall mud. No good deed goes unpunished. Blow it out, it still runs very noisey but obviously needs cleaning and regrease. Looks easy to disassemble - remove 4 bolts and both halves should separate - but they don't. Only about 1/2" opening. How do I completely open 2 halves without excessive force or breaking it?

Thanks for the link. All 4 screws (2 upper #22 and #23 and 2 lower #25 x2) will remove and the body separates about 1/2" and then stops. #16 and #17 are internal on one side only and have no affect here. There appears to be no clips, tabs, etc that should stop the total separation.

The cord and the switch are sandwiched in between the two halves of the housing. Perhaps either the cord or the switch is hanging up on the housing. Maybe the base needs to come off first.
