Sometimes it's fun to nerd out. Since it's sort of a pain to navigate the Shell MSDS site, here are all the MSDS linked for their U.S. off-the-shelf oils (PP, PP Euro, and PUP).

I find the variations in formula within a particular product line interesting. Thoughts? Rants? Questions?

Could you be more specific so that we don't have to sift through 20 documents to uncover what you already may have? Was there anything in particular that stood out?

Take a look at PP Euro 0W-40 vs PP Euro 5W-40 and 5W-30. Also, the 0W-40 is not LL-01 approved, while the other two are. PUP 0W-40 also has an interesting formula.

I'm thinking this is more about politics/marketing than anything else.

Pennzoil/SOPUS is now the official oil provider to BMW NA. If I'm not mistaken, the 0w-40 is the default fluid. They want you to get that fluid from a BMW dealer instead of being able to get it from a local retail store for half the price.

Bingo. I said the exact same thing in another thread. Just like how you can't get 5W-30 PP Euro in the U.S. It appears to be exactly what is in the BMW bottle.

Also, 0W-40 is the default M-car fluid. 5W-30 is the default non-M fluid, with some engines allowing for 0W-30 and 0W-20 variants.

These are SDS sheets, NOT formula sheets.

Yes I am aware. Poor choice of words on my part. Still interesting to see variances between the Euro and Ultra 0W-40s.
