The 500 was an attempt to throwback to that car. It failed.

Ford renamed the 500 back to Taurus, right ? Yes, the 500 was/is too big, much bigger than the old Taurus more inline with the old Galaxie.

One Japanese make has all new model names, all old models didn't do very well. Mazda dropped all old names: 929, 626, 323 ... All current model names didn't exit in the 80's and probably 90's, except Miata.

On top of my head these are the models that had been on market for more than 30 years and are available today:

Toyota Camry
Toyota Corolla
Honda Accord
Honda Civic
Nissan Sentra ?
Nissan Maxima ?

Looks like very few car models(not counting truck or SUV) survived 35 years on market.

Honda Prelude, Toyota Celica & Supra ... were fairly popular then but the 2-dr coupes were slow selling so they had been discontinued.

Some brands have a habit of ALWAYS changing the model name when they make a new version, so their models rarely survive more than 6 years.

Lada is still being made. Though not the 2105 you're referring to.
