Regarding "understanding" how the grid works also, the capacity factor versus MW output is a design/construct issue.

You need (on average) to install 3 times as much wind (nameplate rating) to get the same output factor as a thermal, on an annualised basis...as wind capacity factors are only in the 25-35% range (again on an annual basis).

You can choose smaller machines to get higher capacity factors, but they lower the MW output even further.

The fact that they are ungoverned, cannot be scheduled to ramp up/down for control of frequency and power factor, you need more of these

In the grid, which are big generators sitting there spinning without a turbine to control what happens in trnasmission.

With all of the exponentially worse influence and fraud being pushed by the other side of the table, it's no surprise the oil companies aren't sitting on their laurels and just watching the the campaign of bull go by.

Building the network to have hundreds of millions of cars charging every night is going to cost a whole heck of a lot more than just a few subsidies here and there. Making it all renewable will be significantly worse.

Where Iowa is concerned, I think it is worth keeping in mind that the entire state has only 3 million people.

Think if the entire planets electrical grid was destroyed.
That could have actually happened in 2014 if the big one hit us as in Planet Earth.
Nuclear Meltdown all reactors on the planet.

Thorium-based power is a totally different story and a astronomically much better option.
You can have a physical dump that does not need power to end the reaction.

The grid has more capacity than you think. And the installed generation we have is 3-5 times more than we need because of peak demand, maintenance provision and margin. If all those cars charge between 11pm and 7am there would be minimal impact.

And nothing happens overnight so the system will slowly adjust to meet the demand. Way too many naysayers around.

Some are talking as if frequency control is life or death. If generation is short, frequency droops which causes demand to reduce. The same with voltage. Its an inherit stabilizing nature of the system. I don't know if there are any modern devices that have a very narrow frequency and voltage band anymore. We could probably operate the system at 55hz and .9 per unit indefinitely.

People just need to open their minds a little. Power industry people are some of the most conservative, risk adverse people on earth.

Maybe, but there's enough inertia on their side to keep their run fairly lengthy.

Not surprised at all, there is a guy that new super capacitor variant (not graphene but more like a carbon powder)he made a battery out of a bunch of them , tested in winter and in summer. Was starting the car fine , he was saying super capacitor are perfect to put between electric motor and battery , they last just enough to do the job.
Amnother thing shell was doing good fuel economy wise around or after the war. Check tesla. His promise ? Wireless energy.that never run out. It's funny all these thing have one thing in common,STar trek(why you work , for betterment of Starfleet. Guess this did not sit well with waltzstreet, tesla never had the fund required, shell pulled the plug etc . In all case it brought one constant , affordable energy(SACRILEDGE WALTZSTREET YELLED, NOT ON MY WATCH THE DIVISION MUMBLED)so we continued abusing classic energy

Funny looking back

Now VW claims electric future and Shell is pushing some sort of EV charging nonsense with a EV charger giveaway

(I have yet to figure out how to enter said give away)

All those with license plates ending in even numbers can recharge their cars during non peak hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.*

The rest of us can do it on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.*

* Unless there is a heat wave.

Edit.
Five year bump. Nevermind.
