Changed the oil in the new mower @ 5 hours per manufacturer. Looks like the same e-core as the older Supertechs and others from Champ Labs. I'm only using OEM Kohlers until the warranty is up then switching to a Purolator or Wix.

Couldnt make your link work.....yep the yellow one is a champ ecore.....OPE doesnt neec a high dollar filter...find the cheapest fram 3614 size/equivelant filter and sleep good at night...I have lots of them cut and posted in my older posts...

Coming up on an oil change in mine. I'd like to find a Supertech equivalent to the kohler 12 050 01. But all I find are as or more expensive.

I'm using a Wix made Carquest Blue 85516 filter (PH3600 size) from Rockauto clearance on my 21 HP Koehler. Plenty of room to go up in length in filter can from the 3614 size.

$1.26 + shipping ($3.99 for 1 filter) for a Wix crossover on Rockauto

or $3.48 + shipping for the OPE specific version Wix

or $6.99 at Autozone

Sorry about that, I guess the link requires to be signed on to that other forum.

Anyway, the Kohler filter I cut open is the 12-050-01 and appears to be the same as the ST3614 when they were made by Champ Labs. I found it to be a 32 micron but can't find any data on the bypass PSID. I plan on using a Purolator PL10241 when the mower is out of warranty. That filter has a 12-15 PSID bypass valve but I doubt a mower engine could even open the lower pressure 8-12 valve unless the filter is completely plugged up.

The new Supertech filters are made by Wix from what I read here so the ST3614 should work fine. I'm goint to use the Purolator PureOne because they are less restrictive than most.

Hey thanks. When I put those numbers in from that site to walmart, autozone, and Google I got much higher numbers.

I'll look into that thanks.

Even better, the Motorcraft FL910s can be used in place. Good, cheap filter!

Okay, found a better place to link pics to so lets see how this works. First two are the kohler and the last two are the Supertech. It does look like the e-core in the Kohler is a bit more heavy duty and less media showing between the plastic openings but being a mower engine with probably less than half the oil GPM volume is it really necessary? I don't think so.

I use the FL 910 on my 21HP Briggs. Very good bang for the buck.

I'll go with the Motorcraft over the Supertech. I've been doing the cross references but the motorcraft and Supertech didn't show up.

I was gonna bite the bullet on a kohler oil and filter kit but it will be much cheaper with the delo 10w30 and a Motorcraft. I think my dad's 5.4 uses that one.

If you look at crosses for the slightly larger Kohler 52 050 02 (yellow can in thread link in DSparks post) you'll see the 3614 crossovers like Supertech ST3614 and Motorcraft FL-910S.

Like I posted I had room for an even longer filter (but not larger diameter) so I'm using a CQ Blue that would cross to a 3600 case size instead of 3614 case size on my 21 HP Kohler on my ZTR. A consideration if you have room for a longer filter case.

Yes it is. Plus, the wife's Focus uses them so I always have a few on hand

Well I pulled the short full flow Kohler filter off today, after 10 hours, and am now using the ST3614 in place of the OE. Take a look at what you get with the $10.00 Kohler filters. Has half the media of the original tall OE filter. ADB valve is much harder and won't return to it's original shape, even after 10 minutes. It has more glue on it than two filters need. I wouldn't give a nickel for a truck load of these filters.

Kohlers full flow short filter is only 20% shorter than the original tall OE filter.

But has 50% less media.

ADB valve comparison

Original "Tall" OE filter has .040" thick media

New "short" OE filter has .027" thick media.
