Wind is 'only' about 110mph; A wind speed of 231mph was recorded on Mt Washington in the 1930s and is the highest wind speed recorded by a non hurricane/tornado event.

Mt Washington in NH is 6300 ft high. Some of the older building are held down by chains more oftenly used for medium ship anchors.

I heard once that Mt. Washington N.H. had the worst weather in the world.
Don't know if that's true or not.

I believe that location gets bad weather coming from the Atlantic Ocean and cold temps from Canada.
There like a Bulls-eye.

1992 Hurricane Andrew holds the title of the hurricane with the second highest recorded windspeeds at landfall with winds estimated at 167 miles per hour as it crossed south Florida. Many of the instruments for measuring wind speeds were destroyed by the hurricane which leaves the actual sustained wind speeds unknown.
No house can stand up to 167 mile winds.

Saw a show on this; three major wind systems meet @ Mt. Washington; it has the consistently highest winds in N America and perhaps the world (don't quote me)
