Every 3-4 years or around 45-50k miles, whichever comes first. They are usually worn down by then. I have 42k on my current tires and they have 3/32 on rear and 4/32 on front. They'll be four years old this December. They wore pretty quickly the first 32nds but now they're in the "wearing like iron and refuse to die and getting loud" phase of their life.

I can make a tire last.
I went 51,000 miles on OEM Bridgestones in my 2005 Tundra. My current F150 went 84,000 miles on it's OEM Michelins. Great tires. They had a little life left in them but I decided it was time to swap when one picked up a big tek screw. I had previously found a new (76 miles)set of Michelins on Craigslist that I bought for $500....or about half price.
My 69 GTO seems to have an issue with rear tires..........

On my FWD cars I have a winter and summer set so I run them down to the legal limit, or until they start cracking/bust a sidewall.

On my AWD cars I just run the all seasons down to 4-5/32nds, which is pretty easy to do since they're only 10/32nds new.

On average every 5-6 years.
