Mom's 2011 CRV takes 0w20. I use Castrol black Edge 0w20 and change it when the OLM says 15% oil life remaining.

Yes, I have the owner's manual. It calls for 5W-20 oil, which is why I wanted to change to 0W-20 and consolidate my stash to match what I use in the MDX (same filters as well).

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Sounds like the previous owner's use of 5W-30 should not be an issue, but I will be switching over the next oil change. Hope there is no effect on consumption.

If there is, then just go back to the 5W-30. It won't make a bit of difference to the engine.

Also keep in mind, that the OCI's on the FIt are rather high.

If you're mainly just cruising onthe freeway people have reported the OCI is around 10-12.5k miles before MM ticks off; plus the oil filter by the book is every OTHER oil change.

So choose your strategy, you can make a reasonable argument to spend a few $ more or fancy oil that might save you 1% fuel, long as you also consider to not get antsy and dump it early.

I never change oil before 15% on the MM. However, the previous owner did mostly highway cruising, but my wife and daughter will be doing mainly city/suburban driving with a lot of short trips. After changing over, I will most likely do a UOA to see how the oil looks and whether to push the change to longer on the MM.

For what its worth I had Blackstone test 5W20 Pennzoil Ultra. It had plenty of life left it in after 5000 miles, they told me I could go AT LEAST another 10000 miles without any issues and probably even another 15K once we tested it again. It was one of the easiest cars to change oil in and it was SUPER light on the oil as well.
