I am pleased.

30.7 mpg at 75 mph on the way home from the dealership.

We have a loaded up 2014 grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 and love it. I researched it a lot and saw too many bad reviews of the diesel. We got the 3.6 and it's got plenty of power and mpgs are pretty decent at 22.6 combined according to the car.

I'll second the 3.6. Cheapest to buy, eager to go, with very reasonable mileage.

Yet you bought a Grand Cherokee and are looking at a Volvo and a G.M product !!! You buy a Jeep because you want a Jeep.

I'd much rather have the 3.6L, it has plenty of power and is proven to be reliable.
No urea as well.

I bought the Grand Cherokee because I enjoyed the Limited interior, and it was $10,000 less than a new GMC or Volvo; I couldn't find any used specimens of either.

2014 Grand Cherokee with 9,000 miles - $32,000 (new $48,000)
2016 Volvo XC70 - $40,000
2016 GMC Canyon - $42,000

Thank you! I expect to hit 10,000 miles next week. I had the first oil change done at the dealership. $175. Ouch.

MOPAR has a prepay oil change plan. Ask your service advisor about it. It is a good deal.

It should be less for the JGC EcoD since you have a few less quarts of oil in the sump.

I'll have a look at that. Thanks. The service advisor had never seen one before, so I made sure she knew which oil it takes, and then watched the tech pour in all eight bottles.

Tons? Exaggerating a bit, maybe?
While there are a few warranty engine replacements, it is a very small number. Like in the fraction of a per cent.

So, what's the percentage of failures vs the Pentastar? I remember those having head issues galore. Without data, these are just anecdotes.

In any case, I like it, and I've got another 50,000 miles of powertrain warranty. If it fails, I'll get something else.

don't know, but it is high (FROM THE SAME THREAD)

I have had TWO eco diesel engines blow. First was in June 2015 at 39,000 kilometers. Second last week at less than 20,000 kilometers. Very disturbing to see how many are out there with the same problem. FCC always wants to see oil service records. I have always done mine at Chrysler dealers and BEFORE the recommended time. Can never get a reason for what has happened. What type of recourse do we have with these defective engines?

tried to add a little to the original post after searching. But I'm sure there's more. Feel free to correct typos....

Observations - there seems to be a few 2015 too. It would be interesting to know if it's the same failure as most 2014's.

Nothing like posting about your new car on BITOG so everyone can rain on the new car parade.

Yeah, I love the confirmation bias and anecdotes passed off as data. Thanks so much.

I'm a regular on the RAM1500diesel forum. I've read all the problems and the sky is falling antics of a few people. Many of those "failures" are from single post keyboard warriors. I don't believe that all of the claimed failures are true. Even if there are 40 VERIFIED engine failures of the 130,000 EcoDiesels on the road, that is still .03%
as in point zero three per cent. Hardly stats I'd call a "ton" or garbage.
If it weren't for that forum, I would know of zero EcoDiesel engine failures. The service department at my dealer hasn't had any. The EcoDiesel owners that I've talked to locally face to face haven't experienced any.
The best place to argue this is on the Jeep or RAM forum. It's the last I'll comment on it here.

Again, congrats on the purchase Bandito.
