Why Even Stop?

I used to live north of there- not a lot of other roads to get off on. I believe 61 is 2 lane with turn lanes. It used to be a scenic road along the North Shore of Lake Superior, now straightened out and some sections moved inland.

Around here they kill themselves, and innocent people too, it's almost a daily occurrence. Very sad and stupid at the same time.

Yes. The Chevy was the giveaway.

I went way over the speed limit, somewhere else, and I paid the price. I crashed and side air bags saved my life.

Ever since then I never driven more than 10 MPH above the speed limit.

Sometimes when I meet a guy with a powerful car, he will show off by going a crazy speed down an empty road. I get flashbacks when they do that.

Just for info, in Germany where 60% of autobahns do not have speed limit, death rates are 0.79 per million driven miles. In the U.S it is 0.81 per million driven miles with strict speed limits.
Culprit behind death rates are mostly elsewhere not strictly speeding (education, tires, brakes, quality of roads, discipline on roads etc.).

Agreed. It's not just a matter of "going fast is unsafe". It's a matter of knowing when to go fast and when not to. As well as being aware of what's going on around you, how far you can see, knowing what your car can and can't do, etc.

Why stop?

You mean beside the danger you are putting those around you in by running from the police at 130-170mph?

If that isn't enough for you (which it should be), there is this little thing referred to as "felony evading arrest..."

171 mph is fast, but you cant outrun that Motorola...you can bet on that!

Sometimes...offhand, in western states (where there might be one guy on duty in a 1000 square mile county), yeah, you can!

Directly from a cop: if a decent rider on a sportbike, a big-bore sport-tourer, or a big adventure bike takes off, he gets away about four times in five!

...but you wouldn't want to be that one in five that gets caught.

Yeah, in CO i regularly hit 110-120 sometimes push all the way to limiter at 130mph. But on few occasions driving 80-90mph on mountain roads I would see Sherif and they would just turn on lights to warn me, but not stopping me
