How often do you run malware bytes?

Windows 10 has a native antimalware client, Windows Defender, running 24/7, so I use the freebie MWB version once a month, just to double check.

I don't use it. Not that it's bad or anything like that I just don't need it. If your smart online the odds of getting a virus are extremely low. I do have BitDefender but I don't really run it just use it to scan on download.

In the last 6 years I doubt I've had a single virus. Between having Chrome sandboxed and No Script I doubt I need it.

Ev er since Malwarebytes changed it's format / interface and went to a subscriber service, I only kept the free version. Tell you the truth, ever since they changed, it hasn't caught any bad guys on my computer.

Prior to the their subscriber service, when things were free, it would catch stuff once in a while. Not anymore.

This always cracked me up.... security software by the same mfg of the software that needs it.

We can't build an OS that doesn't get compromised, but we can tell you when it does.

Agreed. Why not fix the underlying weaknesses in the first place? They're slowly getting the hang of things, but way too many dangerous things can be done by a low privilege user or a malicious program.

I'm using Malwarebyte's PRO (full version), so have it scheduled to do a quick scan every day, and a full scan once a week.

When I was using Windows OS,I'd do a scan once a week.

Since Windows 10 is complete garbage of an OS,I've since moved to Linux Mint and no longer use Malware bytes.

Although to be fair, when I DID own a PC, I ran it at least once a month.

Never. Haven't had to run anything since my stepson moved out.

Nobody in the house browses porn or pirates software and I'm behind a pretty aggressive firewall so there's no reason I should have to.

I do like that one. I always have a copy of it on my magic USB stick I use to help those people I know who routinely shoot themselves in the foot, as it were. A local, well respected shop installs it on their refurbished systems, too.

The weakest link in a OS is always the end user. Windows just assumed the user knows what they are doing as it's a beginner friendly platform. Linux on the other hand just assumed the user has no clue what they are doing. I've used many versions of Windows, I've used Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, etc.

It always comes down to the end user. The most secure operating system would be a system that allows 0 input from the user. Linux is a good OS but if the user has no clue what they are doing then it does not matter what OS they are using at all.

You would be surprised how secure Windows can be with a little common sense and not using an administrative account.

I grown tired of people praising one OS over another. They are not the same thing, that can be used for the same purpose but the thought that Linux is any safer than Windows is wrong.

Linux just gets the reputation because it's users are normally far more intelligent (in the sense they know how a computer works). They do less risky things online and know how to fix a problem when they encounter it. That and the user base for Linux is very small.

They make up a grand total of about >3% of all computer OS's. It just does not make sense to target such a small demographic when Windows has so many more users. From a malicious standpoint your odds of success are much higher attacking Windows as there is much more users. Which gives you a larger chance of running into a clueless user who has no clue what they are doing.
