Speeding tickets also generate revenue, but that isn't the primary reason that speed limits exist.

Give that a try and have your next of kin report back to us on how poorly it worked.

Actually, he's right: modern cars produce very little carbon monoxide. When I had my Magnum smogged, it blew ZERO across the board! No CO, no nitrogen oxides, no unburned fuel. (The guy said it was the second zero he'd seen-first was a Prius.) The Mag was a Tier II ULEV...there are at least two categories of vehicle that are actually CLEANER than that.

At least it can easily be turned off, for now anyway.

I'm sure that's reassuring to the 13 people who died of CO poisoning in their homes because they didn't shut off their keyless ignition equipped vehicles while parked in the garage.

Two more who'll be relieved to know that CO won't kill them if a modern car is left running indoors.

If you're so confident that your Magnum produces no CO, give it a go. Maybe you and HerStig can get a two-for-one on your funerals.

They are causing unnecessary pollution. They can just drive to a mall or public space that has AC. And if they're sensitive to heat, the car will probably be way hotter initially than the house.

the load from the power plant is lightened by the lack of the home a/c on the grid, which is then made up for by being in a mall or public space ( thermal load, causing the chillers to work more frequently )

You really think cars are the only pollution source here?

I'll bet you drive a hybrid with lithium batteries in it too

They encourage people around City Hall to follow the "No Idle Zone" they've proclaimed. They also have signage at certain drive throughs, for obvious reasons. However, trying to push a no idling when it's a place that gets to -40 C, well, that's a bit difficult. If such a law were passed and a commissionaire is willing to stand outside in -40 at a hair above minimum wage to write me an idling ticket, I say have at it.

When it's -40 C, the parking enforcement goes down the toilet. If they passed a non-idling bylaw, I suspect we'd see the same.

Oh man. I bet you think red light cams are to make intersections safer too.

Speed laws are absolutely about revenue.

The Start/stop technology makes lots of sense .... for the wallet and environment.
