I went to change the oil in my mom's Highlander. My dad had always taken it to a local garage to get the oil changed. Since his passing I've been doing it. They had always used Champ filters at the garage, as an aside. However, they seem to have been just pushing the lower baffle in the front of the undercarriage either out of the way or just ripping on it to give them access to the oil filter. It was all messed up so I bought a new one for $65.00!! You wouldn't believe how thin the plastic on this thing is, I was [censored]. However, it's on now and I guess in the future when I change the oil I'll take the whole thing off as the shop manual recommends. Also, I've started using the Genuine Toyota oil filter. Much prefer button bypass valve as opposed to combo bypass/antidrainback valve of the Champ.

Most cars have under car fairings that must be removed. Buy a cats claw tool and pop the rivets loose. Takes 5 seconds. If you caveman it then yeah it's gonna brake.

+1 I just hope that it doesn't add any wind noise. Doh! 1

Typical quickie oil change approach.

Most of the time they will leave a bolt or two off to make it easier next time.

I've done that too, but never intentionally. "Hey where'd that bolt go?!"
