The future for the Jeep Wrangler?

Of course, we've had Wrangler diesel available for years... It's a $5,000 option over the 3.6 petrol, and comes with either a 5 speed auto or 6 speed manual transmission.

I'd rather find an old XJ and drop a Cummins 4bt in it. I am not into the abnoxious Cummins sound, but these little engines don't sound too repulsive IMO.

Making the 4BT fit is a challenge. It's so tall that IIRC, it needs a 6 inch lift to fit between the hood and front axle with no more than stock up-travel in the suspension.

People have been putting VW 1.9l TDI is for quite some time. Mostly older models though with mechanical injection.

I have also been told that the 4BT is heavier than the 4.0L and that stiffer front springs would be needed to compensate for the weight.

I have to wonder if that has a major effect on the front to rear balance of a Wrangler.

The other challenge would be having it be street legal.

Would the VMotori diesel from the 2004-2006 Jeep Liberty work well?

The 4BT is a good 200 - 300 lbs heavier than a 4.0 with accessories, etc.
