The reason I do extended oil changes and used oil analysis is so we might all learn something, plus I find it interesting.

This is the 8th UOA I've done on this vehicle.

This analysis is about Mobil1 5-30w. The oil is 8 mths old, w/11,000 miles. The vehicle is a 07 Toyota FJ Cruiser w/a gasoline 4.0L engine that has 153k miles since new. I didn't dump/change anything when I took this sample. I always wait to see the UOA results. No make-up oil was added, because it doesn't use any. The vehicle is my daily driver. We live in the country, so it doesn't see much stop and go driving.

Many yrs ago I put a TopDog brand engine oil bypass filtration system on that utilizes the Amsoil EaBP90 filter that was last changed Nov of 2014, 21k miles ago. The air filter is an Amsoil EaA238(discontinued) element with 68k miles since new. I blew it out again at the start of this run. Over the yrs, I've looked for induction system leaks and tried 3 different brand air filters elements in hope of reducing the Si/silicon level, all without success. This filter works as good or better than any that I've tried.

Mobil1 is relatively cheap and readily available at WalMart. I liked these results. The additive package has some life left in it after 11k miles(2.64 TBN). I'm going to leave the current oil and filters in place for 2k-3k more miles. I personally don't like a TBN# below 2.0.

In a few thousand miles when I change the oil I'm gonna try Rotella T3 15-40w to see how its additive package etc holds up compared to the synthetic oils I've tried. I'll change the Fram XG8A full flow filter with another but leave the Amsoil EaBP90 bypass filter element in place for another run. I always remove and drain the bypass filter when I change oil.

LAB: Oil Analyzers Inc - OAI(Polaris)
LAB COMMENTS: Continue to observe the trend and monitor equipment and fluid conditions. TBN base# is MODERATELY LOW. As TBN base# depletes, the ability to neutralize acids is diminished and corrosive wear may occur. Sludge and deposits may form. Silicon is at a MINOR LEVEL.

The problem with 153K vehicles is sudden dilution, either fuel or coolant leaks. That is why I stop all OCIs at 7K with mileages beyond 125K.

Live & learn! I use the $18-$20 synthetics and change more often. I will let my Fram Tough Guard or Wix go two OCIs. I unscrew their contents, then reinstall for the 2nd OCI.

If the engine is kept relatively clean, two OCIs on a medium quality filter is nothing really...... maybe gets half full of crud. Just make sure your filter paper type can support 14K.

People ask why I don't use an Ultra. Well I feel they are a wee-bit too flow-restrictive.

Dosent seem the silicone is effecting wear. I agree with you about leaving this fill in another 3k or so.

I would be interested in how an extended performance version would compare to the standard mobil 1. Still is pretty great that its holding up to that kind of life. Of course it sounds like no stop and go, and maybe no freezing temps?
