Two new specs, CK-4 which is backward compatible, and FA-4 for the new engines. Yeah it has a lot to to with fuel economy stuff, but both are also centered around lower RPM running engines that are more common. Commercial diesels are typically spec'd now to be turning around 1100-1300 RPM at full operating highway speeds. Supposedly better oxidation resistance in these new oils. And CK-4 will maintain the >3.5 HTHS of previous oils, while FA-4 will vary between 2.9 and 3.2, which will require different metallurgy, at a minimum, for rings, bearings, etc to function properly with reduced HTHS.
