I just picked up a 2016 A3 2.0T and will be trying out low-mid SAPs oils on it. This is the Gen III 2.0T and I had the Gen II 2.0T in my GTI. I will still be doing 5K OCI's because I drive mostly city and short drives. My local Valvoline distributor has the Synpower MST 5W-30 in stock. It's not the cheapest, as 6 quarts are the same price as 10 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 and Castrol Edge 0W-40 at Wallyworld.

Here is the stats.

Viscosity @ 100c 12.2
Viscosity @ 40c 70.6
HTHS 3.5
MRV 18,700
Flash point 227c
Pour point -39c
Noack 9%
TBN 7

I've been looking for that oil but heard it was only sold in the big drums. So congrats on the score.

Why are you going a different route? Give us some history of your last ride?

Congrats on the A3. Sweet ride.

My mom owns an Audi A3 quattro. Audi never capitalizes the word quattro for whatever reason.
I've driven her car once and it's a freaking rocketship. She has her dealer do the maintenance.

Apparently Valvoline MST 5W30 can be ordered at Napa for $9.49 a quart as of 3/16/2016. Valvoline part number 787301.

Any reason you're not going with the 5w40? Either way, the mst oils are not ones I considered....and I should in my VW 1.8tsi

I was looking at the Mobil 1 5W-30 ESP but the 5.6 TBN is lower then 7.0 that the Valvoline has. I noticed the Mobil 1 0W-30 ESP has a higher TBN of 7.6 and has a higher viscosity index then the 5W-30 ESP. I can buy the 0W-30 ESP at my local Napa for $5.99 a quart plus the $12.00 rebate. That would bring it down to $3.99 a quart.

No VAG approval for ESP 0w30 or ESP X1 0w30 here in NA (ESP 0w30 has VAG 504.00 elsewhere), at least based on the data sheet. I haven't seen the bottles.

FWIW I am using ESP 5w30 at 5K intervals in my EA888.

The ESP 0W-30 only has the MB 229.51 and MB 229.52 spec on the bottle. I picked up 6 quarts of the ESP 5W-30. I will dump the factory fill at 1,000 miles and run the ESP until 5,000. Then do 5K OCI's from there.

Let's see a picture of the new A3.

FWIW before I bought the GTI, I really wanted an AWD A3 2.0T...but I did not want to afford it. But, a Golf R may be in my future.

Once the warranty is up, I'm switching to Redline (Euro and/or 5w30 and/or 5w40) or possibly Joe Gibbs 5w40.

Another option might be Kendall euro 5w40. Sa is .78, TBN 7.3. No noack numbers, but is vw approved, as well as mb 229.51. Seems like a strong oil on paper, and about 6 shipped.

I can get bogged down comparison shopping, so I have decided on LiquiMoly Leichtlauf HT 5w40. It may not be the ultimate but it is good enough!

The MK7 didn't do much for me compared to my MK6, so that is why I went the A3 route.

When you said A3 I was expecting a hatch.

LOL! I was, too. Completely forgot there is a sedan version available now, and it looks great, about the size of my old 2001 A4.

I went to test drove the A3 e tron and liked it but couldn't see myself driving a hybrid and the gauge cluster on the e tron was way to busy looking. I'm really happy with the sedan with the S-Line package.

Congrats! Very nice car. I wonder if you are doing engine break-in?
