Technically i could get away with only buying 2 tires, since the dealer replaced 2 before i bought the car(~2years/16k mi ago)
but i never liked playing the 2 tire game, just do all 4 and be done.

anywho, the vehicle is my 2009 Mercury Sable(FWD),currently wearing a mixed set of the OE tires, Pirelli P6 225/55 18 98H.

always liked Pirelli's, but there were reports of selling out to the Chinese, so...no...

always hear good things about Coopers, and they are a "local" company (corp. headquarters about 45 min away), so thinking about them, and also always heard love for certain Generals.

Looking online, at a local Indie Tire shop,
in my Size, in those brands, for prices all in the same basic ballpark:

Cooper:
CS3 Touring 98H ($127/ea)
CS5 Grand Touring 98T ($137/ea)
CS5 Ultra Touring 98H ($138/ea)
General:
Altimax RT43 98H ($139/ea)

Normally I like to find reviews of each tire, for that specific year and Model of car, but not seeing much Luck online with Discount or tire rack. (doesn't look like tirerack even carries Coopers..)

I just need a good set of all seasons. no super dooper performance tires, it is a Mercury Sable after all.

so what say ye BITOG the great and powerful?

Oh, I wouldn't downgrade to the T rated tires. They will most likely have less steering response than the OEM tires.

Get the CS5 Ultra (H). Cooper has a rebate promo going on right now, $70 off the CS5, which will make it roughly the same price as the CS3 (the CS3 is only $50 off)

The CS5, since it's the newer version of the CS3 with upgraded design

I have the H-rated Cooper CS5 Ultras on the '94 Volvo in my sig. I have to say that I have been impressed with both the wet and dry performance of these tires. My g/f has the Altimax RT43s on her Subaru Impreza, and these are very good, too. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them.

Man, I really miss the 15" wheels on my last 3 cars... Stupid 18's... Their online"total" price for the CS5 ultras is just shy of $600. I've never spent this much on tires...

Check out Nexen tires we sell them where I work they are an exceptional tire with a great warranty I'd date say they are just as good as Michelins.

No, it's not. The C3 and C5 were released at roughly the same time.

You're thinking of the CS4. But I'm sure you knew that.

We just put CS5 Ultra H on the Nissan.
My dealer is always the cheapest.
Only brand they carry that weren't buy three get one free.
$111 each mounted etc
nY fees of $4/tire
8.75% tax
$70 rebate
$410 net.

huh... the CS5 Ultras are $129 ea. on Discount direct, with a $40 instant discount on 4, and free Shipping...
so..
4 x $129 = $516
OH Fees ($1/per)=$4
7.5% tax (sales tax in my county is 6.75%, not sure why they are saying 7.5)= $36
Instant Rebate =-$40
$516+$4+$36-$40=$516 Delivered.(then there's the $70 Cooper rebate, so $446 effectively)
then the trick is getting them mounted.

Hopefully that link works, and shows what they have to offer. If anyone sees something better...

You could get some 80k/T rated Mastercrafts installed for $512 out the door after tax. Which is a good deal and those tires are made by Cooper. They seem identical to me.

You realistically have until next winter before you really need to worry about tires in OH.
There will be lots of deals between then and now.
I'd at least wait until the inevitable sales that come each Memorial and Independence days.
What do you want to spend?
If you want stay at the lower end, the General RT43 has had good reviews here and on CR.
A little higher and the Pirelli P7 AS+ has good reviews here and on CR.
Coopers don't seem to offer as much wet or snow grip as either of the above, but the one set of Coopers I've had seemed perfectly adequate in these conditions and they also wore very well.
There is also a universe of cheaper tires available.
You don't do many miles, so a tire offering good wet and snow performance might be more of a priority for you than one offering long tread life.
