I had to travel to the Philadelphia area this week for business and rented a Ford Focus hatchback. It was the naturally aspirated 2.0L 4 cylinder model with 6 speed automatic and some basic options. While it did not have an overload of power, it did manage some really good MPG. I did about 30-35MPG in stop and go traffic and a high of 42.1MPG on the freeway (478, 278, and 78) driving between 60-75MPH. When I turned it in it had 40.2 as the average and I only had to put $12.00 worth of gas in it for the whole week.

Is this about normal for these cars?

That seems about right, though the fuel economy meter in mine is about 1 mpg optimistic.

On the Ford website it says 26 city and 36 hwy. While on there I checked some of the specs on the RS and it says 350 HP at 6000 rpms. 36k msrp fyi, wait a year get it for about 27k.

No, it was a fast week and I did not capture the mileage and gallons of gas. I may be able to when I get the receipt for the rental.

I hope so since my mid-size Accord can do Close to that.

Lifetime total over 19,226 miles is 36.6 with a best of 41.2

Thanks for the confirmation.

The next set of tires I put on the car is going to be slightly lower rolling resistance.

The only thing that disappoints me about the Cooper Lifeliner tires. Mileage suffered a lot.

not unusual at all, what is unusual is that you did not have transmission problems.

This site is cracking me up too much this AM!

The fuel economy mentioned does not surprise me, I can get 32mpg in my 3800lb turbo SUV cruising at about 70 if I keep my lead foot in check. I can certainly see getting over 40 in a smaller NA vehicle...I had a Focus as a loaner when my car was recalled and really hated it.

I'm not sure what any of that has to do with how the RS, which hasn't been released, will depreciate. The RS is not even in the same category as what you're talking about.

For comparison, take a look at the following, similar comparisons:

1. Subaru base Impreza vs STI

2. Mitsu base Lancer vs Evolution

Finally, there's an easy way to quote people that doesn't include the ENTIRE link. My little laptop has a tiny screen and having to scroll 5 times to the right to get to the QUOTE button was a little much.

1. Full reply screen

2. Click on the Earth/chain icon to the right of the smiley face (if you hover over the icon it will read, "Create a link to a webpage"

3. Copy-and-paste in the links you wanted to share with us and click OK on the window

4. Type in exactly what you want displayed, such as: THIS IS THE LINK I WANT TO SHARE

5. Done
