What oil contents are we looking at for high mileage cars.

For eg.

Esters or lack of it?
Pao or Lack of it?
Moly or lack of it?

or maybe higher or lower percentages in the overall oil

Also which of these would be a better oil based on their ingredients? The previous entry level synthetic petronas syntium 3000 5w40 didnt do a good job and the engine felt a little rough (no other problems here).

Mobil 1 0w40 (heard it might burn in high mileage engines)
Petronas Syntium 5000 0w40 (no experience)
Motul 8100 x-cess 5w40 (ordinary experience and expensive)
Motul 8100 x-max 0w40 (no experience.)

What engine it is?

Mitsubishi 4G15 I guess.
Syntium 7000 felt the smoothest.

Motul 0W40 feel no better than 5W40 in the Smart (Mitsubishi engine too but not 4G15).

I'm also interested in answer regarding pao/ester. I guess Moly and Boron always feel better when in oil

Oh, that's mainly psychological (in my case).
Some oils made my engines sound different, but there's more than friction modifiers like moly, so I usually go with the oil that makes ME feel better, based on totally subjective feelings^^

This post is for an L12B I-vtec high mileage. :p

Overall with all oils in all engines, which has made your engine sound the quitest and sweetest?

For me, I would want to look at a high mileage oil that keeps the engine quiet, cool, clean and smooth.

I think Motul 300V would be really expensive in India... It's pretty outrageous here in the USA

Good oil though

I'd say Maxlife too, but I dunno if they have it in India...

I have just found out that the largest car maker in the country (suzuki) uses 0w20 for year round performance. SHell hx8 0w20 for similarly powered cars. (ciaz 1.4)

Also Hindustan Motors was providing 10w30 mineral as regular use.

In this case, can I switch to motul eco clean 5w30? Will it be smooth and quiet enough for the Indian summer?

This Motul is a low SAPS oil (acea C2), I strongly advise you not to use it in your car (or for short OCI only).

What does the manual says about oil quality/grade? I suggest once again Petronas Syntiul 7000

I don't know if there's Valvoline MaxLife syn blend (red bottle) available in India, but I am using it on 5W30 weight in my Ford Escort and it is doing fine, quieter than before. I can't say anything about the leakings as I don't have any yet, but I am liking this oil for my 18yo car.

If leaks aren't your problem, have you tried Shell Helix HX8 full synthetic? I am using it on my sister's Fiesta and I think it's a very good oil for the price. In both cases the cars are used in Sao Paulo, Brazil, so I think the temperature conditions are very similar to yours.

Leaks aren't my problem, but I have just realized, my motor should not be fed new gen thin oils. It likes thicker oil more.

@popsy: I am getting petronas 7000 pretty cheap so might go for it. But in semi synth which are even cheaper, how would you rate hx7 10w40 or total 7000 10w40?

Also I think petronas 7000 will also work for honda jazz 1.2 VTEC. But don't think lancer needs to be fed petronas.

I tried HX7 10W40 in my Barchetta, and the Total 10W40 (quartz/activa 7000) in a friend's Renault, and both were disappointing (smoothness of engines, I know this is suggestive).
If you have to choose one, I think the Shell is MB 229.3 rated, so may be better than the Total.
Actually a few weeks ago I gave the last jug of HX7 to a friend, since I don't want to use it anymore in my cars...

Put in Savsol 0w-20 SN GF5 semi synth (GRP III) for the winter over Veedol for the Winters.

Savsol (savita oil technologies) is an Indian oil brand manufacturing in collabration with Idemitsu.

Group V Esters are probably good for the seals. Everything else depends on the oil and additive package around it...
