How does it look? I bought the truck back in August with 160k miles. I used M1 synthetic 5w20 and topped with PP 5w20. I did burn some oil as seen by the make up oil.

My 6.8l V10 uses a quart between 5k severe oil changes of PP 5w-20. Only 28k on the truck. Severe service carrying 13,200 pounds around.

Makes me feel good to get some additives replenished. My Honda with the same mileage doesn't budge on the dipstick between 10k changes.

I was thinking about trying 5W30 to stop the consumption. I filled it with PP 5W20 this time so we will see how the consumption goes compared to the M1 5W20. I might just top it off with 5W30 if I need to add, but I still have 4 quarts of PP 5W20 left.

Is the magnesium a concern?

I've cut my consumption in half by switching to 5w30 in my expedition. I went from 1qt/2000 miles to 1qt/4000 miles in a very predictable and consistent way.

the only exception to this was the Pennzoil platinum 5w30. the consumption rate of that 5w30 was the same as all of the 5w20's I have run.

it is very worth your while to try a grade switch.

this is still the 2v engine in 2012, yes?
