I was trying to come up with a list of filters that have a filtering efficiency of greater than 90% at 20 microns. Mostly to see how filters stack up and to see which filter companies actually publish their efficiency and micron ratings. These are mostly ones I can get locally, but I would like to know other filters that may not be so easily available to me. So the ones I know are below:

Fram Extra guard
Fram Tough guard
Fram Ultra
Mobil 1
Old Pureone
Old Purolator Classic

Others that claim over 90% efficiency I know of but don't know at what micron rating are as follows:

New Purolator red can
New Purolator Pureone
STP blue
Stp Extended Life

AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters have one of the best efficiency ratings in the automotive market providing a filtering efficiency of 98.7 percent at 20 microns.

Copied and pasted from Amsoil website

At least 90% @ 20 microns is a pretty low bar to hit for any recent filter. I'm sure most available will be at least that good.

Fram told me in email that the Ultras are now 99.9% @ 20 microns. Still waiting for the new packaging to show this as they said, I guess it takes time.

Mann are 99.5-9 @ 9microns. Makes >90% @ 20 micron look quite poor.

Mann Filters – GTI 1.8t (OEM Supplier)
• Oil Filter (W 719/30) – 9 micron filtration at 99.5 – 99.9% efficiency
- Flow rate: 18 liters/min at ? pressure (tech guy did not know pressure)
- By-pass valve opens at 2.5 bar = 36.3 psi
- Cellulose treated with chemical – no fiberglass filters allowed in Germany
- Long-life filter – has recently been greatly improved to allow VW/Audi’s extended drain intervals
• Air Filter (C 37153) – 2 to 3 micron filtration at 99.8% efficiency
- Flow rate: 6 cubic meters/min at ? pressure (tech guy did not know pressure)
• Fuel Filter (WK 730-1) – 10 micron filtration at ? efficiency
- Flow rate: 90 liters/hr at ? pressure (tech guy did not know)"

Old PureOne was 99.9% @ 20 microns.

Old Classic was 98.7 @ 20 microns.

Of course this assumes no torn media. Some models were @ 40 microns. If so, it was shown on the filter's box. All of the old Purolator cartridge filters were rated at 40 microns.

Purolator will not advertise what the new line of filters are.

Per Fram's website:

EG: 95% @ 20 microns or greater.
TG: 99% @ 20 microns or greater.
Ultra: 99+% @ 20 microns or greater.

Fram uses the ISO 4548-12 efficiency test standard.
