I used to enjoy bowing up on a filter to remove it. I remember on a Ford I had in 2006 or so, I gave it all my might. Then a friend removed and said I must have loosened it, heh....he was probably alot stronger, but some fasteners are like that. They dont always just break free, you might have to get an eigth of a turn in before they really do loosen.
Anyways, wintertime changing the oil on a Saturn and I am really not enjoying tensing up and straining to remove it. Add to the fact, I hated buying specialty tools! I got a fluted cap wrench and used it for a few years before Bob introduced me to the Lisle. Been a cakewalk since.
Now, as Kestas said, it is not about just the right torque anymore......it is, usually, 3/4 - 1 turn as the filter can says. They do seem to be getting tighter.....is it the gasket is thicker or are we getting too old?
