I rebuilt the updraft carb on my snowblower yesterday. Done many carbs, this was the first updraft I can remember. The main jet is a brass tube that goes diagonally across from the lower section to the upper. You need to remove the jet before pulling the sections apart and need to hold off on reinstalling the jet until you have the top and bottom section loosely screwed together. The brass jet tube needs to find its way without everything being screwed down tight.

Yah I put things together loosely until all the screws are started. Then, I'll pull it together gradually and evenly. A very transferable process to other things.

It's an Airens 36". I would say 10 or 15 Yrs old.

Ahh, yes. A couple years ago I rebuilt a Briggs updraft carb on a Troy Bilt horse. It was my first one, and I'll admit it took me a while to figure out what was going on. Thankfully, I didn't try to force the two sections apart.

That tiller was/is a money pit. Lots of lessons learned on that deal, starting with a proper inspection prior to buying.
