Will MMO+5w50 kill or clean the engine.

You don't need or want to clean an engine that has no problems. By trying to clean an engine that has no runability problems you risk breaking free carbon and sludge and plugging an oil passage or oil sump screen. Goodby engine. Don't create a problem where none exists. Engine cleans using home brews are to be avoided except under extreme circumstances when you have a problem and nothing to loose. In this case what would possible be gained by stirring up crud in an engine that's running fine?? What?? And yes, do read the manual. The arrogance that making a home brew is smarter than following the maintenance directions is absurd.

I can't believe the pushback this is getting. Don't do flushes and cleans as part of maintenance when there is no problem. You literally could cause your engine to fail.

i use mmo w/ 5w-20, only the last 500 miles before oil change, every other oil change.

ALWAYS in the fuel, 4 oz per 10 gallons of gasoline.

in 2023, marvel mystery oil will have been around for 100 years.

Have they ever addressed the myth that a stock, flat tappet engine doesn't require $20 a quart oil?

Do note that cold starting issues aren't solely about oil having dripped down. That's only a tiny fraction of the issue, and Shannow has shown links that verify that oil circulation happens extraordinarily quickly, regardless of viscosity, provided that viscosity is at least somewhat reasonable for the temperature in question. Did Joe Gibbs address the myth of the time it takes for oil to flow? Watch Imperial Oil's 0w-30 video. It matters when it's -35 C, not when it's above freezing. Even at -35 C, a 5w-50 is far more suitable than even an SAE 20 monograde or a 10w-30.

Toad, if you look on the page showing the manufacturer's recommendations, you'll see the part for the Caprice with the tuned engine...

NOTE: The same oils are specified not just for the Supercharged 3800, or the 5000 V8... But also for a plane-jane Buick 3800 V6.

That was the point being made. GM-Holden have done their research and that oil was shown as completely adequate for a car being utilised in Australian conditions. Shannow then suggest that the identical engine in use in America would be recommended for 5w30 oil, full stop (tell me GM have recommended anything else for the Supercharged 3800 in the USA).

See the other manuals: Again, while they may not suggest or recommend the usage of "additives" like MMO, these manuals all allude to the idea of using different oils, depending on the climate, and the preference of oil YOU as the OWNER have for vehicles in your fleet.
Essentially, the point is, despite all the bickering that takes place here, most engines don't really "care" what oil you use, so long as it can meet the requirements and abilities of the engine, and isn't something absurd like 20w70, 0w18 (etc).

My point all along was not pro MMO, but asking for evidence of the Toad's premise that 5W50 would lead to engine failure through all of the stated failure mechanisms.

Following which the statement was that no-one has such grades in their manuals.

5W50 won't do the things that Toad states...period.

And manufacturers have plenty of 50s in their manuals (and very recently)

Well, if you wait until the engine get runnability problems, youre against preventive maintenance, that most well informed bitogers advocates.
