The steering shaft on my truck has a ton of play in it and needs to be replaced, but I'm having a hard time getting it to come off the shaft that comes from the steering wheel. I have used pb blaster, heat, an air chisel and pryed/beat on it every way I can imagine. Any tips to spread the part and get it removed? Obviously I've had the bolt out while I've been working on it.

Collapsible steering column or not? I know cars were approx 1973 but trucks usually lag on safety stuff.

On many cars, there is a notch where that bolt meets the steering shaft. Separating the two parts is 100% impossible if this is the design used.

Soak it in PB Blaster and rap it a few times. With the bolt out, use screw driver to wedge the split apart. Or better a mason's block chisel. They are soft, so they don't chip when abused. They are thinner with a more gradual slope than a cold chisel.
