Southwest blows AA/US, DL and UA away in customer service in the air and on the ground.
Spirit and Frontier need not even be mentioned.
In IRROPS situations, WN has enough depth in their network along with enough available seats that they can typically flow you through with some routing that would otherwise be insane, while AA/US, DL and UA typically have really full flights so rebook opportunities are limited. Interline may be going away as well, as evidenced by DL's recent refusal to renew its interline agreement with AA/US.
Southwest also operates mainline aircraft on all of its routes, so seat availability is not limited by contracting any given route to a regional carrier flying fifty or seventy seat Barbie jets.
Southwest may just be the best US domestic carrier.
