I do not think it will help much in cold weather, but could in hot. In cold weather a battery heater may help. If you use battery insulation make sure the ECM can still sense the temp of the battery if your car is so equipped.

Chrysler has used the ThermoGuard battery shield since the 1970s.It was designed to insulate the heat of those big 400/440 engines.Today you see a flimsy wrap around the battery of Chryslers/GMs.To be any effective against the cold,it would need to insulate the bottom and top too. They have battery heat plates and blankets, but no top heater (probably due to heating battery fumes).

I use insulator Reflectix I bought from Lowes few years ago. Cut to wrap around the battery, it lowered the temperature on the sides of battery by around 15-20F.

It is to protect the battery from engine heat in the summer. It will do nothing for cold.
