My 2011 Avalon with V6 has 115,000 miles with not a single problem. I wish I had not purchased the extended warranty. I am starting to think that the Toyota V6 power train might be the most reliable power train every.

The Gen 3 Camry V6 could develop transmission problems if the fluid was not changed according to the book. The engines are tough to kill.

I'm surprised that 5w-30 is the recommended viscosity for a 2GR-FE in 2012.

Toyota just can't seem make up their minds.

they varied it over the years with all sorts of nonsense. our 2011 sienna gets whatever leftover quarts i have on the shelf, it doesnt care.

+1 I believe in 2013 they went to 5w20 synthetic and a 10,000 mile OCI.

I'll never do it(10k oci). This is my 3rd 2GRFE. Had a 2008, now a 2011 and 2012. Pretty good but mine threw a P0015 code then it went away and never returned. Probably a short in one of the oil control valve actuators for the VVT. But no sign of any failing parts or metal in the oil.....keep driving until 200k. This thing gets PP or QSUD 5w30 and factory filter every 5000....great engine.

Mine calls for 0w-20 and that's what I've been using for the last 50k kms except for one OCI when I used 5w-20 QSUD.

It was dealer serviced until I got it and I was told they were using 5w-20.

Longest interval to date for me has been 10k Kms without any makeup oil required. This engine as well as my 1MZ-FE have been excellent.

As a side note, I once tried a 10k Km run with PP 5w-30 in my 1MZ-FE and I had add over a quart by the end of the OCI; so I switched back to dino and 5k kms and have never varied from that regimen.

Toyota's flip flopping of recommended viscosities is absurd. You're right, they will run on anything.

I have converted 3 cars from dino to PP and all 3 used some oil for the first 2-3 OCIs and then stopped consuming. don't ask me why but it happened.
