Can anyone tell me the proper name of the covers old Big Rigs had that would cover the exhaust outlet (usually pointing up) to prevent rain and debris from entering when not in use? It would then open with exhaust flow while the engine is running.

I don't know yet, but I might want to use them in some way at some point in time....

thanks

Had a rental generator at work a few times years ago that was powered by a 16 cylinder (V16) w/ 4 turbos on it. A Caterpillar I believe. The rain cap/flapper on that sucker was the size of a garbage can lid. It let out a big CLANG! when you shut it down and it finally coasted down. LOL.

Haven't seen one in a while, even on construction gear. I recall the old roadway ford cab over delivery trucks would have them and they would clang clang clang as the truck idled.
