Here is a solid metal (except the rubber grips) USA made can opener for under $10.

I have one of their early ones that isn't very good due to the lack of the extra gears of the newer style, which makes opening cans much more labor intense.

I have a Chinese one made like their newer one and it's pretty effortless to use, so I expect the improved EZ-Duz-It design will work just as well.

I only just now realized they started making the better design, so now I need to order myself one of these, as well!

EDIT: The company itself seems to be pretty terrible for unsafe working conditions, though... http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/stories/2006/01/09/daily41.html

On my second good old fashioned top cut soft handled oxo can opener. I'm on my second not cause the first broke I took it to work it's in the break room cause the dollar store one we had there [censored] me off to no end and i bought a new one for the house. The first one has to be somewhere around 10 years old.

IDK what make it is and I was amazed to find it in my local Shaws. Its Swiss and has been working fine for 5 yrs or so. I like the concept of opening the can at the seam. I bought a slightly different that I keep in a spares drawer. So I won't starve if the opener breaks

I've had this one for nearly ten years. No sharp edges and not much effort needed. Look around and you'll find them cheaper, but they are worth it.
