Manual Hub question

Today I packed the wheel bearings on my 75 F-100 that has 7/8 turn manual hubs on it. I got the bearings back in and everything was working like it should, but when I tighten the hub cap the hub assembly seems to bind. Its far to difficult to turn (I'm referring to the entire assembly with the studs). I know the hub is unlocked and the ring gear wasn't turning. Any ideas? If I loosen up the cap the hub turns freely again.

Sure the 2 splined pieces inside are smoothly sliding inside one another? If they stack up you're making things too thick.
