After installing a new PS pulley, I carelessly over-tightened the PS belt. Went out for a drive and heard a brief squeal when coming to a red light. As the car slowed down, it sputtered and hesitated. Went back home and realized my mistake. Loosened up the belt and the car drives fine now. The PS belt connects to a baby pulley attached to the crankshaft pulley. In my total unprofessional and noob opinion, the tight belt somehow interfered with the precise revolutions of the crankshaft and its respective pulley...? Knowledgeable folks please chime in and let me know if this makes any sense.

Yup, an overtightened belt puts extra stress and resistance onto the pulleys, and could be harder to turn....we accidentally did that to a car back in the 80s and it wouldn't even start until we loosened it.
