Just bought the mower a Sears, after two mowings the engine started to surge repair dealer said the jet was more than likely clogged not covered under warranty, returned to Sears, they are shipping me another. Anyone else had problems with this engine or just bad luck.

possibly junk in your gas can.. I usually use a filter funnel unless its my new can.

Of course that sounds like one of their super cheap specials.

Maybe it just self destructed/no quality control.

I don't think briggs uses fuel filters. Unless it's an in tank screen. I've never seen one on a fuel line.

What I meant was doesn't everyone add an inline fuel filter. And use some Pro Guard. Those little carbs are a pain to work on and it's worth the trouble to keep them clean.

Where would you put the inline filter? The carb sits on top of the gas tank and slurps it up through a coarse screen.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a machining chip in the carb/ jet from the factory.

If I understand correctly: these are the EXi series that runs on a plastic side-draft carb:

Unfortunately, there's nowhere for average users to add an inline filter (based on the rather compact construction), and I'm not 100% sure if they come with a fuel filter of some sort @ the spot where the fuel tank connects to the rubber fuel line (most Honda enignes do).

Good luck.

"Jet more likely clogged", sounds like an excuse made by a flunkee Sears employee. Speculating without looking at it first.

It is possible to add a fuel filter to these newer "E" and "EX" series B&S engines. Here is a photo of how I installed the 75 micron B&S fuel filter on my new 550E series engine. It's a tight fit, so you must create a loop with the fuel line. Also, I did notice that there is a metal screen on the inside of the gas tank where the fuel exits, it may only filter large debris.

75 micron is for fuel pump engines. 150 micron is for gravity feed (what you have).

That being said, if it works, it works.
