The psychology of color in marketing. Red creates excitement and is bold-the black not only highlights the red but also creates a feeling of strength.

In a test done some years ago it was found that black sockets disappeared from a factory floor at a lower rate than shiny ones.

When I was a kid, my first mechanic's job was in an engine shop in a marina. There were 5 guys there. I started buying orange tools from Snap On so I was the only one with orange.
Now, 30 years later, even I am shocked by the amount of orange tools in my box.
I still have almost every tool I originally ever bought. The bright neon colors really stand out.

I was going through my big toolbox today and ran across my one remaining Snap-on black handled screwdriver from the set I bought back in 1985.

Lesson #1- Black handled anything disappear under the hood.

Bright lime green florescent handles- still have those.
