Plus if they don't ask if it's FWD or AWD they'd also might get it wrong.
I try to clarify when I know something has different possibilities from the get go though. A 78 Dodge van I had, it had 3 or 4 possible rear brake drums. The front axel was one of three different possible ones too for brake parts, bearings, etc. Plus it could have been one of three different engines and 2 different possible A/Ts. Not to mention the rear axle was a full floating, non-dually Dana 60, not a Chrysler, so I had to order parts based on Dana 60, not a 78 Dodge B300. I replaced the damaged rear axle cover with one from a 1990ish Ford van in a junkyard that also had a Dana 60.
Toyota/Pontiac put two different 1.8L engines (1ZZFE, 2ZZGE) in the Matrix/Vibe, so you can't say "the 1.8L". Plus it could be FWD or AWD and could be M/T or A/T. The transmission shop I had mine serviced at, whoever they called to order the filter kit got it wrong (or the trans shop did, but that's a little less likely) and sent them presumably the AWD one, which of course wouldn't work with the FWD transmission. I had to wait an extra 30 minutes while they got the right one delivered.
