Hey all, I got in on a good deal for a bunch of filters and ended up paying $3.85 for a WIX (NAPA Gold) fuel filter for my 1994 Ford Explorer (parts vehicle). With the lack of maintenance it's seen I figured I would find a factory original fuel filter on it and sure enough, I did. The Explorer has 190,700 miles on it and the engine runs perfectly fine. I had no reason to change the filter aside from a small project and curiosity.

Here's what it looked like inside:

It's amazing to me how thick the crud is layered in there. I'm sure it could have taken more but I scraped one of the pleats and got about a pea-sized amount. I couldn't find any large particles so I guess the fuel pump sock is still intact. No idea if the pump has ever been serviced.

Did Ford use those difficult to remove connectors back in 1994? That is the first thing I think about when I hear Ford and fuel filter in the same sentence.
