Norton Power Eraser

I found a free Norton virus and malware removal tool on Norton's website called "Norton Power Eraser" (NPE). Has anyone tried this tool?

It looks pretty slick and is a stand-alone .exe file that you download and run. See the video near the bottom of this link.

"Norton Power Eraser" sounds like an oil additive.

It's pretty good, and it's been around a long time now, but be aware that a false positive is common with this software, so be careful with what it detects. And if you are not exactly sure if the detection is real or not then just leave it alone.

Wow, is Norton that bad these days? I always thought Norton was on of the top anti-virus companies since it's been around for a long time.

I lurk quite a few malware/security related forums.
Norton Power Eraser is quite aggressive when it comes to detecting potential or actual malware so i dont recommend using it unless you are absolutely sure you are infected and even then, there are better alternatives.

Norton still has the stigma of being heavy and useless from the 2000s.
Norton overall is pretty good, just too dependent on the cloud for detection.
