I drove the VW with the 6-speed auto. It's really just a nice little car. More than enough scoot for a DD, good handling, quiet and comfortable. It's got all the cargo space I need, very comparable to the typical small CUV.
Honestly, I could go for another Equinox, but the VW will probably do 20-25% better on fuel and that's money in my pocket.
I still like the Accord and Mazda6, but since I sold my old Forester I no longer have a vehicle that offers good utility. The Sportwagen makes more sense, as does the automatic. It's not a CVT, the shifts are quick and crisp, it behaves well and downshifts eagerly. A manual would be more fun driving a country road on a Saturday, but every time I'm sitting on the Cross Bronx Expressway going 3 feet every 30 seconds I'll wish I got the auto. So that's what I plan to do.
