How is battery 'free replacement' usually done?

Ford wouldn't replace the first one? I would not pay a difference, installation, and I would get that money back.

Walmart must be effortless if you're under warranty. I've only taken in a batteries there that were past full replacement, and still exchanged them for free. 3 times, all Maxx replacements. I was never the original buyer. I also got one of the old mid level batteries (which they discontinued) replaced and it too was well out of warranty. Since they had no more mid level battery I convinced the manager to upgrade me to a Maxx. After getting that accomplished they apparently had none in stock. I had him call another store and explain our deal so they would honor it. The manager at the other store got angry and told me that she didn't understand how I did it but that she knew I did not deserve a new battery. I told her that it was a complicated situation and she should call the other store manager after I left.

I believe I contacted Ford and they said that the original battery was covered under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, not the usual warranty for the battery, so I wasn't able to get one from Ford.

When I decided which one to get one and a half year ago, I saw some people recommended Bosch because of it's quality and good warranty terms, but I did not know there's a catch.

I have sent a message to Pep Boys online. I'll see what whey would say.

Thanks guys, especially @SpencerHSS.

The service manager of the store called me, apologized, and refunded all the money. He said it's a mistake made by someone in the store. I guess it's just the kind of situation that if I don't fight they will just get away with 'mistakes' and make some money.

If those batteries were completely out of warranty they should NOT be giving you anything. I don't blame the woman at the other Walmart store for refusing you, I would have done the same. Doing something like that could easily cost you your job.

When Advance merged with Carquest, I wasn't able to get the proper pro-rate that was in effect when the battery was new.

I bought a different battery from Parts Plus because I was about to be stranded.

Once I explained the situation to Advance Auto's phone support, all I could get was an $20 off an $40 purchase. I bought 5 quarts of oil, a filter, and a special Lisle hose removal hook. Then I decided to never go back to Advance.

You are 100% correct, I should not have gotten any of these replaced for free. And the woman did not refuse, just complained. If they didn't sell $100+ batteries that are junk they would not see me.

And makes the price of the battery go up for everybody else who wants to buy one.

The last time that I warrantied a battery was at Advance Auto.
They gave me a full refund on the battery.
They then discounted the new battery using the on- line percentage that I purchased it at.
It came out even, plus, according to the clerk, it reset the warranty on the battery.
Everything played out in my favor, why question it?

When I bought my battery back in May...Advance said it had a 3 year warranty and they dont Pro-Rate anymore. But they should have honored yours under there old warranty policy.

About a month before the "Free replacement" warrant is up, I take the battery out of the car and drain it. Then I hook my arc welder up to the terminals, and set it to the highest setting. Turn it on, and let it cook! 5 minutes usually does it in, then I fill it with water, and back to the store for a replacement. Been doing this for years on various vehicles...

I had an Autozone Duralast Gold battery go out on me about a year in and took it back to the store to check. They basically hooked it up to do a diagnostic check, found it was bad and swapped me a new battery. In and out in a few minutes.

If you're serious. *&*$&*

We're all subsidizing your "free" batteries. Consumers. Not the big box stores.

You can afford a new truck and a hardley, but not to replace batteries?

Well done, on the trolling. You currently do not own a vehicle old enough to need a battery replacement anytime soon.

Well probably because when his vehicles near the 3year/30k warranty mark, he trashes his car, then stages a car accident with someone who looks like they have a nice car in order to get a replacement from the Big Insurance company "scam"
