Is the 4.6L and 5.4L about the same ?

Can you watch YouTube videos ?

This guy is a Ford specialist and he's very good.

The intake manifolds do not interchange. There are a few different manifolds for just the 2V 4.6L depending on model, year, and 4G or 6G alternator.

I know but is the procedure the same between the 4.6L and the 5.4L ?

I notice it has the aluminum crossover pipe.

To each their own, but I've yet to see a bad Dorman part. They have always solved OE problems in my applications.

Update: I am done re-installing the intake. Took me about 8 hours to get it back in, however that included 1 1/2 hours of getting coolant and gunk out of the #5-8 cylinder spark plug holes, and a little over an hour cleaning the throttle body (wow did it need it

).

I have one question left before I start it:

On the original intake, there were four bolts (I call them studs) that secure the fuel rail. The Dorman does not come with pre-threaded sleeves like the OE. They use self-tapping coarse thread screws (which did work pretty well) to replace the studs. But those screws do not have a threaded "stud" above the head of the bolt. This leaves the (what I believe is called) fuel rail ground wire with nothing to attach to. This is the wire that once attached on the passenger side rail, farthest to the rear/firewall.

What do I need to do? I see three options.

1. Leave it off. I don't know the consequences.
2. Place this wire on the "stud" on the passenger side valve cover. This would be grounded, however if the other end of this wire is attached to a ground, then it does not ground the fuel rail. Unknown consequences.
3. Cut the end of the wire, attach an eyelet to it, and place the eyelet under the bolt on the fuel rail. This surely would ground it as originally intended (right?

Thoughts?

Use a test light to find a good ground for it. Use battery positive.
Don't assume since it's metal that it's a good ground.

Update - I ended up leaving the fuel rail wire off. It started perfectly fine. No explosions, runs great. I left it off because after calling Dorman, they said that screw attaches to the plastic intake. The plastic intake doesn't have a metal ground. So why did Ford put the wire there in the first place? I couldn't argue. Maybe we're both dumb

. Either way, all is well. Thanks for all the help!

BTW, I think the Dorman intake works quite well. If it's more restrictive than the OE, I sure can't tell. No leaks, no poor sealing. Works great

Huh???

AFAIK anyone can get them at Advance, AZ, etc, bought mine from ebay($154 to my door)...

Yes, I purchased mine from AAP, but O'Reilly, NAPA, and AutoZone also carried them. I got mine for a price I probably shouldn't have, but I am a smart shopper, and didn't break any rules. Let's just say I have 2 extra Jacksons in my pocket than TFB1 (not making fun though, $154 is still a steal, considering all the parts stores want $230).

I agree, but that is a terrible ground. BTW, [censored] is that plate for?!? The only purpose I see is to provide the lip for one of the two holes in the engine cover. Surely I can remove this and save a few pounds, right?

Um, so I just realized I'm a moron. My last post ^^^ was wrong. That metal plate doesn't touch the engine cover at all. So I ask with even more confusion, what is that plate for?!? It doesn't appear to have ANY purpose...
