Working on a historical fiction novel. I have been in fleet management for decades and am familiar with "modern" oil analysis. However, I am seeking what methods MIGHT have been in place long before WWII...as early as 1915. To give you an idea, my "character" will be placing drops of oil on his brand new Hotpoint electric iron to do crackle tests.
Chaos is about all I am finding on what was out in terms of oils and fuels, but if there is anyone that is "into" this kind of thing, I surely could use some guidance and historical accuracy is a must.
