This really rubs me the wrong way....the only place around here where I used to be able to find the Gun List was Barnes and Noble. They would get 3-4 copies in and that was it. Now I guess Barnes and Noble has deemed that the Gun List is something they don't want to sell anymore.

The last time I went to my lcoal B&N I asked the young lady behind the counter about it and she looked at me like I was some mad terrorist!

Similarly, while at my local Wally World I was looking for some gun cleaning supplies. After a few minutes of futile searching I looked for some help. I found what appeared to be a store manager (female) showing a few new, seasonal employees around the store. I asked the manager where I could find the gun cleaning supplies only to have her give me a look of contempt and tell me they didn't sell anything gun related. This Wally World is in an area where hunting is a large part of the local atmosphere so I was shocked. When I asked why sell all sorts of hunting supplies and clothing but not gun cleaning supplies her only answer was because they just don't.

Wow, my local Wal-Mart has a gun display similar to the arsenal at Fort Bragg. I guess it depends on what part of the country you're in as to whether they're going to cater to the gun crowd.

Down here in Georgia they sell more ammunition than they do bread and milk.

in 1870, 93% of the U.S. population was rural and 7% was urban.

in 1970, 93% of the U.S. poplulation was urban and 7% was rural.

The more urban people get, the more insulated from the basic realities of life people become. We ARE part of the food chain after all. These attitudes you witnessed are a shame. These attitudes are now "commonplace" since we've heard this for years in our schools. What a shame.

Guns and SUV's kill people, right? Now books about guns are being taken off shelves. Will books about SUV's be taken off shelves, too? Amazing how indoctrination and the repetitive, frog-like nature of the evening news sways people's attitudes and opinions.

are you sure that 1970 split is right? I thought it more like 56% urban, 44% rural (where rural has potentially differing meanings.

One way or another, I find it ridiculous that they dont sell that stuff. Chanes are the store robber or murderer wont be cleaning his gun anyway, and the good person that wants to show their kids gun responsibility isnt able to get the stuff needed as easily. BAH!

I dont shop at wal-mart anyway, only go there for their oil isle. I will not buy anything else from their stores. Not because of this, but a multitude of others.

Barnes & Noble here in lefty-granola-town sells Small Arms Review, which is 90% devoted to full-auto weapons. They also have Shotgun News most of the time, but Gun List is harder and harder to find I presume because the internet sales are killing it slowly.

Well, I'm sure it's a locality thing. Even though I'm in one of the last bastions of rural landscape and "red" territory left in NJ, the corporate powers probably just figure any of their stores in NJ will not sell those items. Very disheartening.

It's a small step from no left turns to no guns. If you have driven in NJ you will know what I mean.

I've heard that is a law but honestly have never seen it enforced. I pump my own gas about half the time and never had any pump jockey tell me I couldn't. I've also never seen a sign saying it was prohibited.

Speaking of Wallyworld...

Anyone see that Mossberg .30-06? I didn't know Moss made rifles?

Anyway, it looks like a nice rig. At $244 it's hard to beat!

I might ask for that to be my Christmas gift and see how I like it. That way I can order my Leupold too.

The Fred Meyer in Anchorage had a moderate selection of pistols, rifles and shotguns, while the local one (Portland, OR)has none. As I recall though even the military PXs have the same variation; some carry guns and others don't.

I live in a pretty liberal area yet Walmart here does sell some firearms. I saw a cool little .410 that I may get there someday. I've seen the usual gun mags in the magazine section as well. I'm sure someday they will remove all gun related items in my local area. We've just got way to many anti-gun peeps around here. Until then I will keep my stockpile growing!

I hope you were kidding...

contrary to popular belief, not everyone in NJ is a super left wing, anti-gun, anti-rights socialist jerk. Just because people in NJ enjoy a higher standard of living and better education than most other areas of the country doesnt mean that others need to be jealous either (I hear more jokes about NJ than anywhere else).

No, but any unbiased observer left or right will acknowledge that NJ has one of the toughest sets of anti-gun laws in the US. Along with CA, HI, MA. The people described in your quote seem to be clustered in the State Capitol.

Sounds a little elitist to me. I don't know anything about New Jersey but, you do sound very snobbish. Everyone hopes for a good education and a high standard of living. Just because you hold a degree and wear a suit and tie does not make you better. **** , people ragged me all the time about being from Kansas when I was in the Army. I take teasing everyday, that is the way the world is.

I get ragged on daily for being from NJ... Thus my comment.

You would never believe how much NJ folks get made fun of by new yorkers, Pennsylvanians, Delawarians, etc.

Please excuse my response... I just get sick of people putting my state down, despite the fact that there is plenty of beautiful nature, great beaches, arts, culture and so on (yes, the Bear, DE in my location is inaccurate)

Ok, but seriously, what's up with the no left turns and those weird U turn lanes? Is it a lack of space when the plat maps were drawn up? The closest "stupid planning tricks" here in WI is:

A: Widening all the I-90 bridges (tearing them up etc.) for over a year near the IL border, making an extra lane in some places, then RIPPING UP the extra lane so now it is EXACTLY THE SAME as before except the bridges are wider

B: Resurfacing W. Washington Ave which had no lanes marked so that each lane is 1 3/4 normal size, just enough for 4 lanes of traffic, and now it CONTINUES to have no markings so you have to play bumper cars with the lane next to you, because heavens forbid you take 2 feet from the grass. But now it is smooth and black.
