Yup, gear reduction starters don't need the amps of the old direct drive ones.
Miatas have had trunk mounted batteries from the get-go.
Sure, the copper wire's inconvenient, but the underhood packaging makes up for it. Except on my wife's HHR, which is still cramped, so it can have that coffin nose.
