I recently washed out a gas tank on a generator that hadn't been run for a very long time. Based on advice I received here at BITOG (IIRC), I washed it out with a strong mixture of B-12 to gasoline, starting with just some B-12. When I swished it back and forth, there was quite a hiss coming from the vented cap, which made me think that the B-12 was reacting with something, and producing a gas. This happened when I first dumped about half the can of B-12 into the tank and agitated it, and then after I added more, along with some gasoline. When I drained it, and rinsed it with new gasoline, there was no hiss. The "rinse" gasoline came out much cleaner than the B-12 treated gasoline, and after that I started the beast up.

So it appears that the B-12 reacted strongly enough with the crud in the tank to do some heavy off-gasing.

If you shake up a container it will foam or vaporize. Pressurizing the container. Think of a can of warm soda that has been shaken. That is what you are seeing.
