My local MB dealer no longer carries Mobil 1 Formula M 5W40, my preferred oil for my 2012 E350. Instead they sell Mercedes Benz branded oil. Does anyone know if Mobil 1 Formula M is discontinued and which oil manufacturer bottles Mercedes Benz oil?

I went with the MB oil last year but I'm considering switching over to Mobil 1 0W40 for European Cars.

If you like M1, I would just use their 0w-40. From what I recall, Formula M 5w-40 wasn't anything special.

Not idea who makes their house brand oil. Some MB dealers were actually using Valvoline products in the past.

Mobil replaced their 5w-40 Formula 'M' with a 0W-30 low saps product. That is likely what they're selling now under their own label.

I wouldn't worry much about it. Daimler isn't making it, its rebottled shell, mobil, or some other blender...

If it meets 229.x, Its good stuff. Id consider the OTC oils out there to be honest, unless you always go to the dealer. MBs are easy to do oil services on, and they are designed to be done topside very easily if you desire...

Walmart, 5qt. jugs Mobil 1 0w-40, $23- $25. Amazon has them for $26.xx shipped to your door, Castrol 0w-40 $23 a jug delivered. Prime eligible.

I've been doing all the oil changes on the car since it was new. It's so easy to do with a suction pump and top mounted cartridge filter. I'll probably buy the Mobil 1 0W40 from Walmart ... can't beat that price.

The MB house brand is a 5W40 weight.

M-B and Petronas are in bed together now.

Our local Penske M-B dealership (and his others) use Pennzoil in their service departments. Used to be a XOM man. Seen his race cars recently?

E350 V6 gasser? Use M1 0W40, much better then Formula M, and cheaper in Wal Mart.

You can see an UOA of MB 229.5 here :

Probably made by Petronas like splinter said. Unfortunately I don't read Russian...

Just to clarify, the OP is talking about M1 Formula M 5w-40, and not M1 Formula M 5w-40 ESP.

Nothing to think about, very simple: M1 0W40.

5-40M is still available if you want it.

Mobil 1 still has 5-30esp but are emphasing their newer 0-30esp. MB has a 5-30esp which I strongly believe is bottled by Mobil 1. These are all for diesels.
Your best choices are the 5-40M or Mobil 1 0-40 @ Walmart. They are exactly spec'd for your gasser.
