Maybe, but M1 is more expensive for a reason.

They should also consider providing numbers for Castrol LL-03 for U.S. market.
Since they put out PDS for 5W40 I was hoping they will put for Castrol C3 5W30 and not just min and max numbers.
I am buying probably BMW X5 35d, and until Castrol provides numbers, Mobil1 5W30 ESP in my choice. Granted, if Catsrol provides better numbers

Thanks for the data sheet. NOACK is only 3% higher than M1 0W40.

AFAIK, M1 0w-40 Noack is around 9%.

Do you have one like that for the 0w-40? Thanks.

Here we've Castrol Edge 5W40 SN VW 502.00 505.01 and MB 229.51 as against US's 229.3 Castrol.

One should now be able to find the Castrol 0w-40 at Canadian Tire and the like, on the same specials at the same time as the 5w-40.

Not sure the numbers are completely relevant, VW changed the 504 507 engine test list recently and introduced new engines including the Lambo V10.

The C3 (502 50501) and LL03 (504 507) are different products.

That will be 'EDGE 5W-40' (mid saps). Not to be confused with 'EDGE 5W-40 SN'

Yeah I know they are different. My point is that for some oils Castrol offer numbers like HTHS or NOACk, but for some it does not. Lack of PDS is not just recent, it always stated min 3.5cp. So it is not VW, it is Castrol that is hiding numbers. This is like Auto Bild's response to VW cheating: others did too.
So what is that Castrol does not want us to see?
I mean I am using 0W40, and using it only bcs of better cold pumpability and little bit better smoothness over M1, but I also know numbers. If I could not see HTHS there is no way I would use it over M1. When it comes to transparency, it is like they do not want people to know what they packing. And it is hard to be worst in transparency then XOM, but Castrol is.

The US pds are now on the global system. The Americans for some reason liked min or max rather than typically. Either they were silly to do so or just didn't want people making conclusions by PDS comparisons.

Check some of the global PDS on the Castrol search. Professional LL03 is same as EDGE professional longlife III 5W-30

Let's be clear: who liked min or max rather than typical? American branch of Castrol or consumers?
No HTHS
Min HTHS

Would you elaborate why 10W-30 would be a better choice for winter than 5W-40?..

I think he means mixing 0w40 and 10w30 in the winter.

Why would you mix.
How about to use 0W40 all year around?

I also see no reason in mixing 0W-40 with 10W-X for winter temteratures, I would stay with 0W-40 in these circumstances.

Sorry for the confusion. The blending is just because I want to use up my remaining oil.

Based on the discussion in this thread I will run the 5W40 for full OCI.

I will use the 10W30 as top-off oil.
