Hurricane Joaquin; another Sandy?

Ugh. Sounds like a rowboat/ corn/ fox situation. Good luck. Maybe put the cars in the garage up on cinderblocks.

Hopefully they have used the time since Sandy to prepare. Rebuild the long bulldozed dunes and move structures further inland. Turn low areas back into natural buffers. Did it happen?

Many of the models are in agreement with the Euro and push it out into the Atlantic or have it brush the Long Island area. That is a good trend in the models; however, the NAM is now in range and has the Sandy line scenario back in play with a merger of the noreaster and a direct hit into the Carolinas.

But any other car would get salt-soaked at that level...not good...

The truck stays nearby in case we have to get out during the storm surge...

So, while the 24 hour news cycle has moved on to important topics like Hillary's appearance on SNL, Hurricane Joaquin devastated several places in the Carribean.

We didn't escape unscathed either. Little property damage, compared with Sandy, but the neighborhood kids seemed to make the best of it...

The backyard was suitable for kayaking as well

On a good day, the street is quite nice...but when there is a storm surge, one has to batten down the hatches...and move the cars to higher ground...

Yep...the surge, however, coupled with wind direction, caused the flooding yesterday. Severe flooding.

A direct hit, or a closer approach, would have been disastrous for us.

What? Do what again? Nah, just apply for fema disaster relief instead. That'll get the dollars flowing.
