Hi guys,

Why are brake caliper pins flat on 2 side?

And is there a specific way to install them, ie, flat bit facing up/down, or side to side?

Yes, some have flats, it's to hold some grease. Some calipers will have the pins located in a fixed position...if not you can line them up anyway you like, but make sure when you put the car back on the ground all the tyres have the makers name at the top.

That is because FLa is above above the tropic of Capricorn where the Coriolus effect is reversed

The flat surface mating with the flat surface of the caliper is the only way it can get installed as the bolt goes into the pin and not into the caliper and the pin slides into the caliper.

Keeping the surfaces flat prevents the pin and the bolt from rotating in the event there is movement of the caliper itself which is remote.
