I've only got one key fob for my '02 Avalanche, which stopped working after I accidently dropped it. Got a pair now, but I'm not sure how to go about linking it to the vehicle. If anybody has any instructions, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

You can give this a shot. Its for a 01 pontiac. Maybe similar..

IMPORTANT: All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock transmitter (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to four transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

1. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
2. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse from the fuse block.
3. Close all of the doors.
4. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
5. Turn the ignition to ACC. The Body Control Module (BCM) will perform the following in order to identify the type of BCM installed in the vehicle:

o Flash the seat belt indicator 2, 3, or 4 times.
o Chime 2, 3, or 4 times.

6. Turn the ignition to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second . The BCM may begin to chime and flash diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). If the BCM has stored any DTCs, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control Module in Body Control Module Systems.
7. Open and then close any vehicle door. The BCM will chime in order to confirm that the programming mode has been entered.
8. Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for approximately 14 seconds . IMPORTANT: After approximately 7 seconds the BCM will chime once to confirm that synchronization has been completed. After approximately 14 seconds the BCM will chime a second time to confirm that the programming has been completed.
9. Repeat the previous step in order to program each additional transmitter.
10. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
11. Install the BCM PRGRM fuse into the fuse block.
12. Operate the functions of each transmitter in order to verify correct system operation.

This is the Impala and Silverado procedure, avalanche should be the same as its the same headunit.

1. Close all the vehicle doors.
2. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
3. Press and hold the DOOR unlock switch.
4. While holding the DOOR lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
5. Release the DOOR unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
6. Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one keyless remote. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
7. Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (one more click forward) position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
9. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

For your '02 Avalanche right from GM. 2 ways to do it. With or Without scan tool. (Just like what Anies said above)

Remote Control Door Lock Transmitter Programming
Important: All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence.

You may program up to 4 transmitters, using either of the two following procedures:

Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 1 - No Tools Required)

Close all the vehicle doors.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold the door unlock switch.
While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
Transmitter Programming Procedure (Method 2 - Scan Tool Required)

Install a scan tool.
Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
Use the scan tool in order to access the Body Control Module (BCM) Special Function: Program Key Fobs menu.
Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitters.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Remote Control Door Lock Transmitter Programming
Important: All transmitters that are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode, all previously programmed transmitters will be erased upon receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter.

Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle. The order in which the transmitters are programmed is important. The first transmitter programmed will be transmitter #1, and the second transmitter programmed will be transmitter #2. Use care to program the transmitters correctly.
The scan tool must stay connected until all of the transmitters are programmed. All doors must be closed to perform this function.
Install CANDI module.
Install a scan tool.
Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
With the scan tool, select Body and Accessories.
Select Keyless Entry.
Select the proper engine size.
Select Module Setup.
Select body control module (BCM).
Select Program Key Fobs.
Follow scan tool on screen instructions.
If you are programming more than one transmitter, repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
Remove the scan tool.
Exit the vehicle. Attempt to lock/unlock the doors to verify the programming.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

I programmed both fobs today, and it's good to have keyless entry back again. Never realise how worthwhile something is until you're without.
